Teaching Naturalist positions available
at Pathfinder Ranch Outdoor Education School!

The Science & Outdoor Education School at Pathfinder Ranch is a residential outdoor education program that provides safe, fun, and challenging learning experiences for 5th and 6th graders from across Southern California.  Since the 1970’s, Pathfinder Ranch has become a premier outdoor school in Southern California. We are committed to providing naturalists with a meaningful, challenging, fulfilling, and fun working environment.  

 

Naturalist Job Description

The naturalists at Pathfinder Ranch use established curriculum and the California State Standards as a guide in planning their classes. Naturalists will commonly teach four one hour and forty-five minute classes per day. Naturalists are also responsible for:

  • Leading 2-4 meals per week
  • Teaching 2-3 evening programs per week
  • Welcoming students (assisting with arrival/departure, orientation)
  • Creatively developing curriculum and the overall program
  • Participating in staff meetings
  • Assist in overall program operations, including care of our animals and garden.

Qualifications

  • Successful experience teaching outdoor education & recreational classes
  • College degree in a related field
  • Understanding of and ability to communicate ecological, recreational, and conservation concepts
  • Passion for teaching and building strong mentoring relationships with students
  • Desire to creatively teach and create academic and recreational curriculum for fifth and sixth grade students
  • Ability to be a beacon of positive energy in a community that lives, works, and eats together.   
  • Flexibility, self-motivation, high energy, and commitment to teamwork
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • Experience in recreational activities such as canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, and archery.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary of $325-$375 per week
  • Community living in quality housing (your own room with shared bath, common living room, kitchen, fireplace & free laundry facilities)
