Requirements

Age: Specialists/Counselors - 18 years old and above; Ad Staff - 21 years old and above.

CPR and First Aid Certified: All staff are required to be certified in both CPR and First Aid upon arrival to camp. Please send copies of all your certifications along with your application.

High School Diploma or Equivalent: High School seniors must send a current unofficial copy of their transcript at the time of application, and bring proof of their diploma to camp upon arrival.

Conduct: A high standard of moral and ethical conduct is required for each staff member in the profession of working with children. Pathfinder Ranch is looking for individuals with the self-control and discipline necessary to live a life that sets a good example for the many young people who will spend part of their summer at camp.

Summer 2008 staff must be availabe for training and employment during the following dates:

Compensation

Salary: The salary is listed for the entire season and will be paid approximately every two weeks. All salaries are in addition to room and board and are determined by the individual’s position, skills, training and experience.

Staff Housing: Program Specialists will have a shared room in the staff lodge. Cabin Counselors will spend their nights in the cabin with the campers, but will have a shared room for time off.

Position Opportunities

All staff must have a sincere desire to work with children of varying ages and backgrounds in a resident camp setting. Enthusiasm, sense of humor, flexibility, and patience are all important qualities we will be looking for. Sound judgment and good communications skills are required, along with the ability to supervise 10 to 15 campers. All staff members assist in the running of the overall program including meals, evening activities, free time, and general all-camp programming. Counselor, instructor and administrative positions are available

Cabin Counselors: Responsibilities include the safety and well being of each assigned camper. Counselors need to develop individual relationships with each camper providing opportunities for personal growth and positive group living experiences. The counselor is responsible for campers in the cabins, during meals and evening programs, and assisting in program areas during the day.  Cabin sizes may range from 10-13 campers each week.

Day Camp Counselors: Supervise all Day Campers.  Will also assist in the overall camp program (evening activities, free time, meals, etc.).

Program Specialists: Responsibilities include developing and teaching a high quality, safe and fun program within established guidelines. Each specialist must have knowledge and experience in their specific program area and the ability to effectively pass this knowledge along to children. Program Specialist positions are as follows:

HEAD LIFEGUARD

- Current WSI and Lifeguard Certification
- Training/ experience in lake and pool management
- Experience in instructional canoeing
- Ability to supervise two assistants; Minimum age of 21

LIFEGUARDS (2)

- Current Lifeguard Certification

ROCK CLIMBING LEAD
INSTRUCTOR

- Documented training/ experience in instructional rock climbing
- Knowledge of proper use and care of rock climbing equipment
- Ability to supervise one assistant

ROCK CLIMBING ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR


- Documented training/ experience in instructional rock climbing
- Knowledge of proper use and care of rock climbing equipment

EXPLORER’S CLUB LEAD  INSTRUCTOR


- Training/ experience in extensive hiking and outdoor living skills
- Training? Experience in teaching environmental education
- Knowledge of Native American customs and culture is desirable
- Ability to supervise one assistant

EXPLORER'S CLUB ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

- Training/ experience in extensive hiking and outdoor living skills
- Training? Experience in teaching environmental education
- Knowledge of Native American customs and culture is desirable

HORSEBACK RIDING INSTRUCTOR


- Training/ experience in instructional, western style riding
- Ability to assist in proper care of horses and equipment

ARTS & CRAFTS INSTRUCTOR

- Experience in preparing and teaching a variety of creative arts and crafts for a camp program

ARCHERY INSTRUCTOR

- Documented training/experience in instructional archery
- Knowledge of proper use and care of archery equipment

TEAM CHALLENGE
INSTRUCTOR

- Knowledge of a wide variety of sports and games
- Documented training/ experience in facilitating initiative and low ropes activities
- Knowledge of a wide variety of games and team building activities

Administrative Staff: All administrative staff members assist and support the Summer Camp Director in organizing and administering the overall program. These individuals provide advice, help, and support to all members of the general staff team. "Ad Staff" members assist in pre-camp/training, provide help with program areas, discipline, counseling and cabin activities, and act as constant role models for both staff members and campers. Leadership or supervisory experience is required. Must be at least 21 years of age.

Counselor Supervisor:

  • Prepare training, and advise cabin counselors in proper techniques and procedures of counseling and care of campers
  • Supervise and evaluate cabin counselors, always offering support, positive guidance and experiences for growth
  • Organize counselor schedules for cabin assignments, free time, evening activities, etc.

Specialist Supervisor:

  • Prepare training, and advise specialists in proper teaching techniques, and successful preparation procedures for their individual programs
  • Supervise and evaluate program specialists, always offering support, guidance and assistance in growth and improvement
  • Organize specialist schedules for free time, evening activities, etc.

C.I.L.T. Supervisor:

C.I.L.T. - Campers in Leadership Training - Junior Counselor/Teenage Leadership Program

  • Build a leadership program for young adults ages 15 - 17, including creating a team atmosphere and teaching basic camp counseling techniques and completing camp service projects.
  • In cooperation with the cabin counselors and program specialists, supervise, advise, and evaluate ten CILTs each week.
  • Manage Trading Post (Camp Snack Bar) including controlling inventory and finances, and overseeing workers (CILTs) at sale time.

Assistant Director: One of the three Ad Staff members will be asked to serve as the Assistant Director for the duration of the summer.  This person will assist the Summer Camp Director in the daily operations of summer camp programming.
